how even if it's your whole life, or your
own children if you have to you can just pretend it didn't happen and you don't

you don't go anywhere but straight ahead of you and you smile and you talk to people and you look so completely normal that they don't know what happened, which is exactly right, because nothing happened, really, nothing happened at all. And you're just fine, you really are, because it didn't happen, and there's nothing to even see if you look back and besides, you don't look back.

And that's a good thing, it's a necessary thing, everybody says that's in the past now and just get on with your life now don't they. Everybody says what can you do about it anyway it's over isn't it. It won't happen again will it and if it does, well,
you know what to do. Pretend it didn't happen. Nice neighborhood boys don't do bad things, and Daddies don't hurt their little girls, and Mommies don't fall to the floor sobbing and children don't cry please don't, please don't, please.
Pretend it didn't happen. Everybody loves everybody, really they do, and nobody means to hurt anybody, really they don't, and it won't happen again really it won't if you pretend
